Nursery Progress

Whew, it sure is a lot of work pulling together a nursery. All I have to say is thank God for grandparents. Between my mom making a custom crib bumper and bed skirt and painting 9 beautiful murals of special places we plan to take Ethan in his life, my dad making the crib, and my mother and father in law gifting us with a custom white arm-chair/glider and ottoman and passing on a beautiful family bassinet that they had re-upholsterd and painted, Ethan’s nursery is going to be such a blessing of family love!

Here is a wee glimpse at some of the decisions that are going to pull together this fun project of mine…

The crib Fabrics are both Robert Allen. The stripe is called oxford unquilt and the color is seaside. The ikat is called khandar.

Grandpa (my Dad) is lovingly making Ethan a sweet crib by hand that looks a lot like this. The best part is that as he is building this precious crib out in his magical ”wood-shop in the garage”, he said he is continually saying prayers for our little guy. How special and awesome is that? A true labor of love!

This is the Larkin Dresser from Pottery Barn Kids that we hope will last him through his teen years.

I chose two of the navy blue Parker shades (how fitting, seeing as our dog’s name is “Parker”) from Pottery Barn Kids. These are placed on either side of his dresser. He has the espresso stain lamp base. I also chose to use the simple espresso letters to spell his name. I have a few ideas how these will be displayed, but haven’t finalized my decision yet. I’ll be sure to let y’all know when I finalize my decision.

For organized storage, I chose to combine these baskets (with the chalkboard labels so the wording could change over the years from blankets to lacrosse balls and so on) and the navy blue buckets. Some of the buckets have custom words that say, ”Play” and one bucket says, “Etc.” These will accompany his books and picture frames of family and friends on his tall bookshelf.

For the window treatments, I am going very casual with the bamboo shade and would like to have custom drapes made using the Ikat fabric to flank both sides of the bamboo shade.

The walls will be painted a beautiful tint of blue.

The glider arm chair and ottoman are simple and traditional and the fabric they are being upholstered in is what I think is just the “right white” that can be used for future babies (regardless of gender differences)!

What a special time in life it has been to create a retreat for our little love. We can’t wait to meet him in just a few weeks and as the nursery gets more pulled together, I’ll be sure to post some pictures of his actual bedroom. For now, I hope you’ve enjoyed the small glimpse of what’s to come!

Well, we can FINALLY announce to the world that we are having a precious baby BOY in March! What fun we are having dreaming of playing with all kinds of balls, chasing our little boy around parks, strolling through neighborhoods all bundled up in winter gear, teaching our little guy how to surf, ski, and throw a lacrosse ball, future snowball fights, walks along the beach with the sand beneath our toes…and the list goes on and on. You’ll probably see A LOT more ideas for wee designs as I (or should I say we?) figure out our nursery. So here’s to our first attempt at creating a peaceful (and budget-friendly) retreat for our sweetest little blessing!

A Cafe Fit for a Baby

How cool is this idea? Tokyo Baby Cafe was designed specifically for parents to enjoy with the welcome company of their wee ones! I am drooling over the creativity of this project. From the small details of the wood planked floor getting larger as it nears the oversized “sofa”, to the brilliant concept of designing a cafe space that children and parents can enjoy without worrying about disturbing the guests at the next table. Nendo, a Japanese design firm is applauded for the brains behind this amazing design concept. They really didn’t forget a thing…even the undersides of the tables are covered with pictures of animals for the babies to gaze at from down below. I hope you get a kick out of these photos of one fabulous cafe!
