Designer Spotlight: Caitlin Wilson

I am SO thrilled for you to meet (or for some of you to be reintroduced to)…

caitlin wilson design: style files

Caitlin started her own company, Caitlin Wilson Design, in 2007 and has blossomed distinguished interiors all over the world.  Her design expertise has reached places as wide as Dubai, all the way to Hong Kong, and now I have a feeling we will be seeing a lot more of her as she graces her designs throughout the States again.  Caitlin recently decided to plant her roots in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.  She describes her design concepts on her blog as, eclectic, unique, but based on classic values.  One of her staples is to add a sparkle of an unexpected element.  Caitlin has an eye for finding modern and bold fabrics, then strategically placing them on traditional pieces.  Just how does she do it time and time again?  Here are a few juicy secrets that Caitlin shared (via her interview with HOUZZ) on how she has come to create such celebrated amazingness.

I’ve actually loved being transient for the last two years because it’s allowed me to explore my own style and to soak up what each place has to offer.

Sweet sentiments like this “Home Sweet Home” canvas helps to make virtually anywhere feel like a home away from home.

As a designer, you need to know what is important to a client or family. Listen to their needs and spend some time getting to know their lifestyle so you can create an environment that will meet their needs and make them happiest.

I guess determination is my underlying characteristic that has driven me to succeed professionally in the places that I’ve lived…It takes patience and a lot of trial and error.

I am a pillow fanatic! I always suggest a 2-2-1 ratio. 2 squares of one pattern, then 2 of another pattern, and then 1 rectangle in the center in another. I love to find a pattern that incorporates multiple colors and then pull those other colors for the other pillows. The styling secret is down feather inserts — this is a must!

Isn’t she incredible?  I am overflowing with anticipation to see what she dreams up next and will be following this design cliffhanger with a magnifying glass!  If you’re feeling like me, I guess we’ll just have to take Caitlin’s own advice and

practice a little patience!

Sheri’s French Laundry Master

A very dear friend reminded me of the fabulous world of French Laundry in home design!  After speaking with her, I was inspired to put together a fun look book of a French design scheme for her master.  I knew she had been dreaming of the Restoration Hardware upholstered bed for years, so I used that as my starting point to pull together a few ideas for my take on French Laundry design…just for you, Sheri!  Profiter!

Double Duty

One of my all time favorite design ideas is to use two sweet twin beds in a bedroom.  There is something about the double duty that is so fun!  I am addicted to repetition and symmetry in design and “twinsies” offer both in such a fabulous way.
